It's time to talk about washing machines and their capacity!
We stock a huge range of washing machines kitchen appliances online here at Paul Davies Kitchens and Appliances. But it's important for you to make sure you chose the right washing machine for your home. If you buy a machine that's too big you'll spend unnecessary money on running costs and water that you don't need to be running. But if it's too small then you'll end up having to do more washes than you actually need too.
So when you're looking for a washing machine, they'll all have some sort of weight in the description. That weight is the capacity of clothes that the drum can hold. Some people may get confused and think that that is the capacity of wet clothes, but it's not. The washing machine will be able to adjust the drum to deal with the weight of wet clothes.
If all this weighing of clothes is getting you confused then we've come up with a simple(ish) way of figuring out how much you can get in your machine. 1KG of washing roughly equals 5 shirts or 1 shirt and a pair of jeans or 2 big bath towels. Of course this isn't gospel but it's a good rough estimate to go off. We would always recommend not stuffing your washing machine too full either. Just so the clothes, water and detergent have some space to move around.
When it comes time to wash bulkier items like bedding or curtains then it's important that you wash them on the right setting. And don't overfill the drum as items can get caught or damaged in the machine. As a general rule of thumb bedding from a double bed would fit into a 7KG machine.
