So what kind of tumble dryer do you need? Once you've decided on either freestanding or integrated, you then need to choose whether to get a vented or condenser dryer. What are the differences you might be asking?
Freestanding machines are the most common types of dryers and they allow the most flexibility as they can be placed anywhere in the home and you have the option to move them around if you need to. Integrated tumble dryers tend to be built into a set place, normally in the kitchen or utility room. They tend to be smaller than freestanding dryers and are hidden behind a unit door.
A vented dryer pumps out the hot air through a hose which means this kind of dryer needs to be placed somewhere the air can be pumped out without damaging anything. Whereas a condenser dryer condenses the hot, damp air down into water, which can then be easily disposed of. This style of tumble dryer can be placed anywhere without having to worry about the hot air affecting the surroundings.
Other types of Tumble Dryers
Other models which have become popular due to innovation include Heat Pump and Automatic Tumble Dryers.
Heat Pump Tumble Dryers pump hot air into the dryer and recycle it repeatedly to dry the contents. Due to how much money this can save, recycling the air and getting the most out of the energy used. These do tend to be a bigger investment than the aforementioned dryers.
Automatic Tumble Dryers use sensory technology to detect exactly when the clothes are dry without setting a timer. However, you do get different dryness settings basically outlining how much energy the machine should use. For instance cupboard dry and iron dry.
Different Capacities for Different Needs
Don't forget to check on the drum size once you've decided on the tumble dryer for you. A large capacity dryer tends to be more energy efficient compared to its smaller counterparts. However, don't go oversized on your dryer if there are only a few of you who will be using it.
For a smaller household or for a few quick washes per week we recommend 4kg to 6kg. We would suggest 8kg and above for bigger loads or to wash bigger contents. The best option for family homes will certainly be 8kg+ capacities.
To put this into perspective, 5kg Dryers will dry up to 25 shirts whereas 12kg will dry up to 60 shirts.
Size and Dimensions Matter Most
It would be pointless to invest heavily into a dryer just for you to design your kitchen around it. Thus you can pick from full-size, compact and porthole tumble dryers.
It will be worth your time to take note of the measurements and ask for a quote from our team. By communicating specifications and worries with the PD Kitchens team, we are sure to find the perfect solution. This doesn't even have to be specifically appliance size, you may need a large frame to fit in larger contents.
Your appliances are becoming more energy efficient
Whilst there are appliances specially manufactured to be energy efficient above all else, dryers in general are becoming this way. Each dryer will come with a QR Code outlining specific product information. In recent years has come a new energy class system, an A+++-G classification system. Most commonly you will pay more for a higher energy grade, however, this means it will be more efficient to run. If there isn't a grade, it is likely that this isn't government-approved.
Simpler Consumption Usage through control panels and new technology looks to cut energy costs. In the long term, this will make for a cost-efficient investment, more likely you will get your money's worth.
