The first place to start is by emptying the fridge. You might find the easiest time to do this is the day before your big shop, when your fridge is at its emptiest. When you're going through whats left in your fridge, throw away anything that is out of date and place anything that you want to keep into a cool bag whilst you're busy cleaning.

So now that your fridge is empty, remove all shelves and drawers that you can and use hot soapy water to wash them down. Whilst they're drying, you can turn to the inside of the fridge. We would suggest using natural cleaning solutions like lemon juice or a mixture of water and vinegar. Not only will these clean and get rid of any grime and gunk, it can also help neutralise any lingering smells.

Once your fridge is looking and smelling good, it's time to check the drainage hole. This hole tends to be at the bottom of your fridge, behind the fruit and veg drawer. There will be in implement in the hole that can be used to make sure that the hole isn't blocked. If the hole is blocked use the vinegar and water solution to flush through and push any dirt out. Cotton buds are also useful to clean around the inner rim.

Now your fridge interior is clean, you can put back the shelves, drawers and remaining food that you kept. But make sure you don't forget about cleaning the fridge exterior! Soapy water would be perfect for that.
